We know that a Minor 3rd is equivalent to a Whole Step + a Half Step.

As in writing other intervals, it is important to choose a spelling so that the degree of the interval is correct.
The first example is correct because G to Bb is a 3rd.

The second spelling is incorrect because G to A# is only a 2nd.

In this example, first spelling is correct because F# to A is a 3rd.
