Minor 7ths – Writing Music

In the next set of lessons, you will see a Minor 7th lit up on your instrument and try to write it in music notation.

When trying to imagine large intervals, it is always helpful to use a reference point.

In this case, you should think of a Minor 7th as being a whole step smaller than an octave.

As with all intervals, there is a right way and a wrong way to spell it.

To ensure you are writing it as a 7th, the easiest way is to select spelling that is one letter away from the octave.

For example, if your octave is C, use Bb.
